About the Kontrapunkt B

The Ortofon Kontrapunkt B was introduced to celebrate the 250th anniversary of J.S. Bach and the new millennium, embodying the theme of the inexhaustible nature of analog records. It features a very thin ruby cantilever mounted with a super polished nude FG 80 stylus tip. The coils are made from 6-nines pure silver wire, delivering an output voltage of 0.47 mV at 1 kHz and 5 cm/sec. Compared to the MC Jubilee, the Kontrapunkt B offers a more open, grandiose, and dynamic sound picture with a very present perspective. It performs well in small, soft rooms with moderate tweeter loudspeakers and responds to resistive load variations, with higher loads (100-200 Ohm) opening up more detail. The cartridge body is made of stainless steel, weighs 10 grams, and has a recommended tracking force of 2.5 g. It is regarded as a musically convincing moving coil cartridge with a slight treble bias but very low noise and excellent detail retrieval.
