About the Illustrious SE

The Origin Live Illustrious SE is a high-performance tonearm derived from the Illustrious series and specified with upgraded cabling and refinements for enhanced musicality and dynamics. It uses a reinforced aircraft-grade alloy arm tube, with a long, sleeved rear stub to dissipate energy, minimize reflections, and stabilize the counterweight for better cartridge control and tracking. The arm features a hybrid arm tube structure (five-material construction in the current MK5 Illustrious) to improve rigidity and energy dissipation, contributing to increased transparency, dynamics, and bass performance. A high-strength aircraft alloy headshell is machined for rigidity and low mass, with improved decoupling and a well-angled lightweight finger-lift to reduce resonances while maintaining ease of use. The bearing system employs ultra-low-friction dual-pivot floating vertical bearings, which decouple the armtube from the deck and control vertical motion, while the yoke and base design tightly control horizontal movement for superior definition, transparency, and bass power. The Illustrious SE is hard-wired with Origin Live's Linear Flow external cable (SE configuration uses Linear Flow 3), specified for extremely musical, dynamic performance and reduced signal degradation compared with standard wiring. Overall, the Illustrious SE is voiced for outstanding bass power, superb dynamics, high transparency, and consummate musicality, making it suitable for use with high-end cartridges and turntables.
