The OPPO BDP-83SE Special Edition is an enhanced version of the original BDP-83 Blu-ray player, designed primarily for audiophiles seeking superior analog audio performance. It features a significantly upgraded audio board with ESS Technology Sabre DACs: an 8-channel Sabre Premier (ES9006) DAC for 7.1 multi-channel output and an 8-channel Sabre32 Ultra (ES9016) DAC stacked for stereo output, delivering improved soundstage, detail, and fidelity. The power supply is also improved with separate rails for the BD loader and analog audio section, plus additional linear regulators for better bass and power isolation. Video processing remains top-tier with Anchor Bay circuitry, supporting 1080p output at 24/50/60Hz. The player supports a wide range of disc and file formats including Blu-ray, DVD, DVD-Audio, SACD, CD, HDCD, AVCHD, and MKV files via USB. It offers HDMI, component, composite video outputs, and multiple audio outputs including 7.1-channel analog, stereo analog, coaxial and optical digital, plus Ethernet and two USB 2.0 ports.
