About the BDP-83SE

The OPPO BDP-83SE Special Edition is an enhanced version of the original BDP-83 universal Blu-ray player, aimed at listeners who primarily use the analog audio outputs into dedicated stereo or multichannel systems. Its key change is a substantially upgraded analog audio section built around ESS Sabre DACs, with separate DAC implementations for the 7.1-channel multichannel output and the dedicated stereo output to improve soundstage, detail, and overall fidelity. The power supply is also refined versus the standard BDP-83, with additional regulation and isolation for the analog audio section to further reduce noise and improve bass performance. Like the base BDP-83, it remains a universal, Profile 2.0 BD-Live/BonusView-capable player and supports Blu-ray Disc, DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, SACD, CD (including HDCD), AVCHD and MKV files via USB, as well as Kodak Picture CD and common recordable BD/DVD/CD media. Video processing is unchanged from the standard model, using Anchor Bay VRS processing and outputting up to 1080p over HDMI at 24, 50, or 60 Hz, with additional component and composite video outputs. Connectivity includes HDMI v1.3, 7.1-channel and stereo analog audio outputs, coaxial and optical digital outputs, Ethernet, two USB 2.0 ports, and IR in/out, with RS-232 added relative to the base BDP-83. The player can bitstream or internally decode Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, outputting them as PCM over HDMI or via the 7.1 analog outputs, and supports SACD either as native DSD bitstream (over HDMI) or LPCM conversion. It provides at least 1 GB of onboard storage for BD-Live content and firmware updates. Physical dimensions are approximately 3" x 16.875" x 13.25" and weight is about 11.2 lbs.
