About the SPA II SE
The NVO SPA II SE (Special Edition) is a large, robust valve phono amplifier designed by Andreas Hadjiminas of New Valve Order (NVO) Audio in Cyprus. It features 22 vacuum tubes, including low-noise Russian 6C45Π tubes for the input stage, two 12AX7 stages for RIAA equalization, and a 12AU7 cathode follower output stage. The unit supports both moving-magnet (MM) and moving-coil (MC) cartridges with switchable circuits, eliminating the need for separate step-up transformers. The phono amplifier is housed in a main chassis measuring 450 x 310 x 125mm and weighing 7kg, connected via umbilical cables to a separate dual mono power supply chassis (340 x 295 x 85mm, 7kg) that uses two valve plate regulators per channel for stable, low-noise operation. The design uses high-quality components such as Japanese PCOCC-A wiring, hand-picked precision resistors and capacitors, and features star grounding and internal damping to minimize microphony and noise. The SPA II SE is praised for its detailed, natural, and musical sound reproduction, revealing subtle nuances in vocal performances and complex orchestral recordings. It is considered a high-value product at its price point of approximately .
