About the Mentor
The Nottingham Analogue Mentor turntable is a suspensionless, unipivot design known for its warm sound and minimal resonance. It features a solid wood base, a polycarbonate platter decoupled from the subplatter via felt washers, and a 3mm ball bearing bathed in military-grade oil. The motor is housed in a separate low-resonance cassette, adjustable for height, and designed to be as small and vibration-free as possible. The turntable requires manual assistance to start and stop the platter, minimizing motor noise. The Mentor can accommodate up to two tonearms between 9" to 12" in length, typically fitted with a 12" tonearm. It is praised for its musicality, natural pace, and rhythm, with a warm tonal balance that can be slightly adjusted by tightening screws. The design philosophy emphasizes minimal interference with the stylus and a high level of detail and dynamics in playback. The Mentor was produced for about 19 years before being replaced by the Dais model.
