About the S-X Ltd
The Nirvana Audio S-X Ltd. is a premium speaker cable introduced in 2002, designed by Stephen Creamer as a companion to the S-X Ltd. interconnect. It combines elements from Nirvana's SL and Royale cables, featuring two conductors each made of symmetrical Litz elements with 285 isolated strands of high-purity copper of various gauges. The conductors are spaced to minimize capacitance and twisted into pairs wrapped in FEP insulation. Surrounding these are eight smaller 95-strand Litz-type conductors wrapped in the opposite direction to promote noise cancellation. The cable assembly includes wire guides for conductor placement and vibration damping, enclosed in amorphous PTFE and air insulation, with an outer polyurethane-based jacket to reduce static. The cable is about ¾ inch in diameter, flexible, and finished with high-quality hardware and terminations. Sonically, it is noted for neutrality with a slight coolness, excellent noise rejection, low distortion, and coherence, comparable in tonal balance to Nordost's Valhalla cable but with a warmer, more relaxed character in the interconnect version. It is optimized for low-level signals between source components and preamps, emphasizing a very quiet background and detailed sound reproduction.
