About the 2.9
The NHT Model 2.9 is a unique four-way loudspeaker based on the design of the NHT flagship Model 3.3. It shares the same low-distortion upper range drive units, including a 1-inch fluid-cooled aluminum-dome tweeter, a 4-inch polypropylene-cone upper-midrange unit, and a 6.5-inch polypropylene-cone lower-midrange unit. The 2.9 differs by incorporating a 10-inch long-throw polypropylene-cone woofer instead of the 3.3's 12-inch woofer. The speaker is designed with a narrow, fairly deep floorstanding cabinet intended to be positioned slightly out from the wall with a built-in inward slant on the front baffle for toe-in, a design NHT calls Focused Image Geometry (FIG). It features a single strip of foam on the front baffle's outside edge to minimize diffraction and is mirror-imaged with woofers mounted on the inside edges. The 2.9 delivers tight, detailed bass with a frequency response of 26Hz to 26kHz ±3dB, sensitivity of 87dB/W/m, and nominal impedance of 6 ohms. It is capable of incredible dynamic power and range, suitable for audiophile listening with recommended amplifier power between 30 and 250 watts per channel. The speaker weighs 78 lbs and measures 39.5 inches high, 7 inches wide, and 21.5 inches deep. It was available in gloss black, mahogany, or sycamore finishes.
