About the Motive 1

The Neat Acoustics Motive 1 (later updated to Motive SX1) is a compact floorstanding speaker from Neat's Motive series, introduced in 2005 and revised in 2013 with SX updates including an improved SXT tweeter (anodised aluminium dome replacing titanium). It uses a 2.5-way reflex configuration with a sealed enclosure for the bass/mid and tweeter, and a separate reflex-tuned section for the sub-bass driver. The design features a rearward cabinet lean for time alignment and a bottom-firing port through the plinth. Known for neutrality, smoothness, clarity, and good bass extension in a small footprint, it blends discreetly into living rooms while offering performance comparable to larger models. Reviews praise its organisation, tonal balance, and dynamics, though some note midband thinness and need for capable amplification. The SX range is now discontinued.
