About the DR-2
The Nakamichi DR-2 is a discrete 3-head, single compact cassette deck from the early 1990s, using a 4-track, 2-channel stereo format at a tape speed of 4.8 cm/s. It employs separate record, playback, and erase heads for precise calibration and off-tape monitoring, and incorporates a dual-capstan transport derived from Nakamichi's in-house designs for stable tape handling and low wow and flutter. The deck supports Type I, CrO2, and Metal tapes and provides Dolby B and Dolby C noise reduction. Published specifications include a frequency response of 20 Hz to 21 kHz with Metal tape and a signal-to-noise ratio of approximately 72 dB with Dolby C. The DR-2 omits the manual azimuth and output-level controls found on the higher-model DR-1 but otherwise shares its construction quality. The unit measures 430 x 110 x 305 mm and weighs approximately 7.3 kg.
