About the CR-7A

The Nakamichi CR-7A is a flagship, three-head stereo cassette deck, widely regarded as one of the most advanced cassette recorders Nakamichi produced, combining sophisticated engineering with relatively intuitive operation. It uses a discrete three-head configuration (separate record, playback, and erase heads) and a direct-drive, dual-capstan transport for high tape stability, low wow and flutter, and precise tape handling. A microprocessor-controlled auto-calibration system measures and optimizes bias, record level, and playback-head azimuth for each tape, with memory presets for different tape types (Type I, II, and IV), and also permits manual fine adjustment for experienced users. The CR-7A supports Dolby B and C noise reduction and offers features such as an easy-to-read fluorescent display, real-time tape counter, auto-repeat and memory functions, timer recording/playback, and a variable output level control. A wireless RM-7C remote control was supplied, enabling transport operation and azimuth fine-tuning from the listening position. Build quality is substantial, with a quiet, precise transport mechanism, four-motor drive system, and full line-level connectivity for integration into high-quality hi-fi systems.
