The Nakamichi 480 is a legendary 2-head cassette deck from the golden era of analog audio, manufactured between 1979 and 1982 in Japan. It features a 4-track, 2-channel stereo system with a tape speed of 4.8 cm/s. The deck uses 1 record/playback head and 1 erase head, supporting tape types Type I, II (CrO2), and IV (Metal). It includes Dolby B noise reduction and a switchable MPX filter. The transport mechanism is engineered with a double capstan system and three motors, ensuring precise tape handling with minimal wow and flutter (0.06%). The frequency response ranges from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, with a signal-to-noise ratio of 62 dB and total harmonic distortion of 1.2%. The deck has line input of 50 mV and line output of 0.6 V, with optional headphone output. It does not have auto-reverse, title search, fader, pitch control, or CD synchro recording.
