About the NDS
The Naim NDS is a reference network player and music streamer that delivers audiophile-quality sound, rivaling the finest high-end CD players and turntables. It supports internet radio, Spotify Connect, and high-resolution audio up to 24bit/192kHz. The NDS uses a 40-bit SHARC digital signal processor capable of a billion calculations per second to provide jitter-free, accurate digital audio processing. It features Burr Brown PCM1704 precision laser-trimmed sign-magnitude ladder DACs and employs a proprietary 16x oversampling filter. The device has no internal power supply to minimize noise and interference and requires an external power supply such as the XP5 XS, XPS, or 555 PS. The NDS's internal architecture includes separate digital and analogue circuit boards mounted on heavy brass sub-chassis suspended on steel springs to reduce mechanical resonance below the audible range (4Hz). Optical isolation is used between streaming, DSP, and DAC sections to reduce noise. It offers multiple digital inputs (BNC, RCA, optical TosLink) and analogue outputs (DIN and RCA). Control is possible via front panel, remote handset, or the Naim n-Stream app for iOS and Android. The NDS supports a wide range of audio file formats and playlists, including WAV, FLAC, AIFF, Apple Lossless, AAC, Windows Media, Ogg Vorbis, and MP3, with gapless playback. It is designed for integration into high-end audio systems with hardware remote linking and multiroom compatibility. The NDS has been succeeded by the ND555 but remains a highly regarded reference network player.
