About the CDP

The Nagra CDP is a premium CD player designed with a traditional front-loading transport mechanism mounted on a drawer for stability and stackability. It features a 24-bit Burr-Brown DAC with 8x oversampling (352.8 kHz), delivering a bandwidth of 20 Hz to 20 kHz with less than 0.003% THD+N and a signal-to-noise ratio exceeding 108 dB. The player outputs fixed-level analogue signals via electronically balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA connectors, along with digital outputs including AES, S/PDIF, and Toslink. It uses an external 12V DC power supply to minimize electrical noise and interference. The chassis measures 310 x 254 x 76 mm and weighs 4 kg, machined from solid aluminum for mechanical precision and vibration damping. The CD transport mechanism is a modified Philips CD Pro2 mounted on the drawer, ensuring disc stability with a magnetic puck. The CDP eschews upsampling, favoring conventional oversampling and a voltage-source DAC architecture for low jitter and simplified gain circuitry. It is noted for its neutrality, clarity, and resolution, making it especially suitable for acoustic music playback. The player is controlled via a traditional Nagra rotary knob and backlit LCD display on the transport drawer, with remote control included. It is part of a range including the CDC (with built-in preamp and headphone amplifier) and CDT (transport only) models.
