About the BPS
The Nagra BPS is a compact, battery-powered phono preamplifier designed for both moving-magnet (MM) and moving-coil (MC) cartridges. It features a gain of 51dB for MM and 62dB for MC, utilizing custom-wound input transformers similar to those in Nagra's higher-end VPS model. The unit operates on a single 9V battery, providing approximately 100 hours of use, ensuring ultra-quiet operation free from mains interference. It offers multiple loading options with supplied plug-in modules for resistive and capacitive loads, including 100, 150, 220, 330, 470, and 1000 ohms resistive modules and 100pF, 220pF, and 470pF capacitive options. The BPS is housed in a sturdy brushed-aluminum case with a rubber base to prevent sliding. It supports both balanced and unbalanced inputs and outputs via RCA connectors and includes internal jumpers to select MM or MC operation and gain settings. The phono stage is praised for its clarity, transient response, and neutrality, making it suitable for high-end vinyl playback systems.
