The NAD 216 THX is a stereo power amplifier designed for high performance and reliability, featuring 125 watts continuous power per channel into 8 ohms and dynamic power ratings up to 400 watts into 2 ohms. It uses a massive Holmgren toroidal transformer and dual mono amplifier PCBs for low distortion and high current delivery, capable of driving demanding loudspeaker loads down to below 1 ohm. The amplifier is bridgeable to mono, delivering up to 400 watts continuous power into 8 ohms and 800 watts dynamic power into 4 ohms. It features protection circuitry against short circuits, DC offset, and overheating. The design emphasizes simple circuitry and meticulous engineering to achieve excellent sound quality with low distortion (0.03% THD) and a high damping factor (>200). It has a frequency response of 20Hz to 20kHz ±0.2dB, input sensitivity of 1.1V, and a signal-to-noise ratio of 98dB at 1 watt and 117dB at rated power. The amplifier weighs approximately 14.2 to 15.5 kg and measures about 435 x 146 x 370-383 mm. It was manufactured between 1995 and 2001 and is no longer in production.
