About the Fosgate II Phono
The Fosgate Signature II is a tube-based phono preamplifier designed by renowned audio engineer Jim Fosgate. It features an all-tube amplification and rectification circuit with no solid-state devices in the signal path, delivering a warm, detailed, and inviting sound with excellent extension at both frequency extremes. The preamp offers 42dB gain for moving magnet (MM) cartridges and 60dB gain for moving coil (MC) cartridges, with selectable loading options (100, 300, 500, 1k, 47k, 100k ohms) to optimize cartridge performance. Its unique power supply design uses large storage capacitors acting like batteries to provide rock-solid voltage to each tube stage, minimizing noise and signal leakage between stages. The RIAA equalization network is split into passive (above 1kHz) and active (below 1kHz) sections for accurate frequency response. The unit has a clean, modern industrial design with blue LED tube illumination and real wood end caps. Dimensions are approximately 13 3/16" W x 10 3/4" D x 5 5/8" H, weighing about 11 lbs. It is highly regarded for its purity of timbre, effortless soundstaging, and neutral yet musical tonal balance, making it a strong performer at its price point around with B-stock units
