About the X-LP
The Musical Fidelity X-LP is a stereo phono preamplifier designed to work with both Moving Magnet (MM) and Moving Coil (MC) cartridges. It features separate inputs for MM and MC with a selector switch to choose the cartridge type. The unit provides low distortion (<0.01% THD at 1kHz), high signal-to-noise ratios (>75dB unweighted for MM, >65dB for MC), and accurate RIAA equalization (+0.5dB from 20Hz to 20kHz). It requires an external 12V AC 500mA power supply and measures 110 x 110 x 220 mm (W x H x D). The X-LP is known for its stable and reliable performance, making it suitable for long listening sessions. It was part of Musical Fidelity's X-Series and is appreciated for its refined, spacious sound with detailed dynamics. The unit is designed to be left on indefinitely and includes earth terminals for proper grounding. It was originally sold around the late 1990s to early 2000s and remains a respected vintage phono stage.
