The Music Reference RM-5 MK IV tube preamplifier, designed by Roger A. Modjeski, is engineered for audiophiles seeking excellent sonic performance and value. It incorporates separate electrical sections for the phono RIAA equalizer, phono amplifier, and line amplifier, each powered by a supply exceeding requirements by a factor of ten for overload protection and stability. The preamp uses three 6922 tubes (Sovtek or JAN Philips variants) with phono stage tubes sometimes including Russian 6H23. It features custom-made, plated controls for longevity and low noise, mil-spec anodized chassis and circuit boards, and a durable Anofax front panel lettering process that prevents wear. The design minimizes point-to-point wiring for reliability and includes logic circuitry for automatic/manual muting to avoid switching noise and power-up disturbances. The RM-5 MK IV delivers an accurate soundstage with precise instrument focus and is built to last with rugged electrical and mechanical construction.
