The MSB Technology Universal Media Transport V (UMT V) is a high-end universal digital transport designed to play virtually all major disc and file-based media formats and deliver them as high-quality digital audio to an external DAC. It supports CD, SACD, DVD, DVD-Audio, Blu-ray and HRx discs, as well as music and video files from USB memory, external hard drives and network streaming up to 24-bit/192 kHz PCM, with DSD playback also supported on compatible outputs. The UMT V provides multiple dedicated digital audio outputs, including three RCA coaxial, Toslink optical, AES/EBU, and MSB PRO I2S, plus additional bitstream surround digital outputs on RCA and Toslink for multichannel formats such as Dolby and DTS. Maximum digital output resolution is 24-bit/192 kHz PCM on standard outputs and up to 32-bit/192 kHz PCM and direct SACD output over PRO I2S to matching MSB DACs. The transport is engineered as a low-jitter, low-noise digital source and can be used for multichannel playback, with audio and video sections designed to maintain precise synchronization when feeding external DACs and AV systems. Power is supplied externally via 12 V DC, and the UMT V can be powered by a basic desktop supply, a DAC V Power Base, or MSB's dedicated outboard power bases; MSB specifically recommends the Dual Signature Transport Powerbase for separate audio and video feeds, while the Diamond Transport Powerbase (Single Diamond) represents the ultimate upgrade with enhanced linear supplies, multiple transformers and improved regulation and shielding. These power bases substantially improve noise performance and overall sound quality compared with the standard switching supplies. The UMT V's separate outboard power architecture, extensive connectivity and universal format support, together with MSB's PRO I2S interface for optimal pairing with MSB DACs, make it a versatile reference-grade digital transport for audiophile two-channel and advanced multichannel systems.
