About the PAD-1
The MSB Technology PAD-1 is a professional analog-to-digital converter originally released in the 1990s. It converts analog audio signals into 24-bit digital data at sampling rates of 44.1, 48, 88.2, or 96 kHz, using a well-regarded Crystal CS5396 chip. The unit includes three analog inputs: Line Level, Professional (XLR balanced), and Phono (MM), and offers multiple digital outputs including coaxial, optical, and balanced AES. It features exceptional technical performance with a signal-to-noise ratio of 120 dB, dynamic range of 144 dB, total harmonic distortion plus noise (THD+N) of 0.0006%, and channel separation of 105 dB. The device weighs 18 lbs and measures 17" x 14" x 1.75", designed for rack mounting. Originally MSB also produced a related model, the ADD-1, with additional RCA inputs and auto-switching capabilities.
