About the Performance 9
The Mordaunt Short Performance 9 is a high-performance active subwoofer designed for both home theater and two-channel audio systems. It features two 25cm (10 inch) long-throw drivers operating in an opposed configuration to cancel reactive forces, each powered by a 500W IcePower Class D amplifier module, delivering a combined 1000W output. The drivers use Continuous Profile Cone (CPC) aluminum cones with titanium voice coil formers and copper-coated aluminum wire for reduced moving mass and improved dynamics. The subwoofer cabinet is constructed from 25mm thick polymer resin for exceptional mechanical strength and includes a double flare port to minimize port noise and extend low-frequency response. The drivers are mounted in an ultra-rigid, cast steel chassis isolated from the enclosure to reduce vibration. The Performance 9 incorporates second-generation Active Room Control (ARC) technology, which uses a supplied test CD and SPL meter to measure room resonances and apply digital notch filters with adjustable frequency, depth, and Q factor for optimal bass performance in any listening environment. The subwoofer covers a frequency range from approximately 14 Hz to 200 Hz and includes multiple footers for different floor types. It weighs about 88 pounds and measures roughly 20 inches square. The Performance 9 received a 5-star award from What Hi-Fi? for its advanced technology and sound quality.
