The Monk Audio Phono Preamp is a compact, high-performance phono preamplifier designed and manufactured in Germany. It supports both Moving Coil (MC) and Moving Magnet (MM) cartridges with extensive adjustment options including three separate inputs for multiple sources, and five selectable equalization curves (RIAA, NAB, EMI, Decca, Columbia) to accommodate modern and collector's recordings. Gain is adjustable in two stages for MM (40 dB and 46 dB) and MC (62 dB and 68 dB) cartridges, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of cartridges and output levels. The unit features built-in, switchable MC input transformers and comprehensive loading options for impedance and capacitance. It delivers a frequency response from below 20 Hz to above 20 kHz with ±0.5 dB accuracy relative to the RIAA curve, total harmonic distortion under 0.3%, output impedance below 250 ohms, and a noise ratio for MC cartridges better than 64 dB (unweighted). The phono preamp measures 220 mm wide, 80 mm high, and 310 mm deep, weighing approximately 3 kg. An upgraded PowerPak III battery power supply is available, providing improved dynamics, lower noise, and enhanced soundstage imaging by replacing standard AC adapters with a high-current lithium iron phosphate battery system. The unit comes with original manual and box and is noted for its low noise floor and holographic soundstage reproduction, making it suitable for audiophiles seeking detailed and natural vinyl playback.
