About the Platinum PL-100

The Platinum PL-100 is Monitor Audio's original flagship Platinum-series standmount/bookshelf speaker, a compact two-way, rear-ported bass-reflex design using a 6.5-inch RDT mid-bass driver and a C-CAM ribbon tweeter. The cabinet combines MDF panels with ARC (Anti-Resonance Composite) baffle and base sections to minimise vibration and internal standing waves, contributing to lower coloration and greater clarity. It is finished in natural wood veneers with high-gloss piano lacquer, with a hand-upholstered real leather front baffle for a luxurious appearance and additional damping. The C-CAM ribbon tweeter is extremely light yet rigid, acting as both diaphragm and voice coil, and operates in a powerful rare-earth magnetic field to extend high-frequency response to around 100 kHz, eliminating the need for a separate super-tweeter. The 6.5-inch RDT mid-woofer uses ultra-low-mass skins bonded to a honeycomb Nomex core to reduce distortion and improve transient response and overall clarity.
