The Mola Mola Tambaqui DAC is a high-end digital-to-analog converter that has garnered significant attention for its superior performance. It employs advanced digital signal processing algorithms, high-quality components, and a state-of-the-art conversion process to deliver unparalleled audio accuracy and clarity. The Tambaqui features a two-board stack design, where the first board upsamples incoming digital audio to 3.125MHz/32 bits and converts it to noise-shaped PWM. The second board houses two mono DACs, each featuring a discrete 32-stage FIR DAC and a single-stage 4th order filtering I/V converter. This design results in an impressive 130dB signal-to-noise ratio, near the theoretical limit for 24-bit files and surpassing even quad-speed DSD. The DAC supports PCM up to 384kHz/32 bits (with limitations for higher rates and bit depths via USB and Roon only) and DoP and Native DSD up to quad speed (via USB and Roon only). It includes seven wired digital inputs: USB, TosLink, S/PDIF (RCA), AES3, Ethernet, I2S over HDMI, and Bluetooth protocols. The output is available on balanced XLR connectors, with additional headphone outputs on 4-pin XLR or 6.3mm jack. The Tambaqui is compact, measuring 7.9”W x 4.3”H x 12.6”D and weighing 11.5 pounds.
