About the Kansui

The Miyajima Laboratory Kansui is a stereo moving-coil phono cartridge developed as a successor or alternative to the Shilabe. It uses Miyajima’s distinctive cross-ring motor design, intended to keep the coil centered during stylus movement and reduce distortion. The body is made from African Blackwood, and it uses a nude Shibata stylus. Its approximate specifications are 16-ohm impedance, 0.23 mV output, a 20 Hz–32 kHz frequency range, and a recommended tracking force of about 2.3 g. The Kansui is known for a quiet, balanced, highly resolving presentation with clean high frequencies and a rich midrange. Careful alignment and a suitable low-output MC phono stage or step-up transformer are required for best results.
