About the 754 Freedom 5
The Mission 754 Freedom 5 is a high-fidelity 3-way floor-standing loudspeaker with a unique transverse-folded cabinet design made from medium density fibreboard (MDF) with constrained layered damping and fire-retardant polyurethane foam. It features a 200mm (8") polypropylene cone low-frequency driver with a 25mm voice coil and a large magnet for extended bass control, a 170mm (6.5") patented aerogel membrane midrange driver with edgewound flat copper wire on a Kapton former for low mass and high efficiency, and a 25mm (1") ferrofluid-cooled silk dome tweeter for refined high frequencies. The crossover network uses 12 quality components with bi-ampable/bi-wirable 5-way gold binding posts. The speaker has a frequency response of 55Hz to 20kHz ±1.5 dB, a -6dB point at 32Hz, sensitivity of 90 dB SPL at 1m/2.83V, and a nominal impedance of 6 ohms. The cabinet dimensions are 1080 x 220 x 320 mm (42.5 x 8.7 x 12.6 inches) and it is available in Black Ash, Rosewood, and Primavera real wood veneers. Recommended amplifier power is 25 to 250 watts per channel. The design emphasizes ultra-rigid construction to eliminate cabinet coloration, high dynamic range, smooth off-axis response, and a unique bass alignment to minimize room interference. Setup recommendations include running in for 24 hours, using spikes for floor coupling, placing within 30cm of the back wall without toe-in, and using quality bi-wired speaker cables. The speaker was released circa mid-1990s and is no longer in production.
