About the Mitchell Gyrodec IV Full Gert Pedersen Mod
The Mitchell Gyrodec Mk IV Full Gert Pedersen Mod is a extensively upgraded version of the classic Michell Gyrodec turntable, modified by Danish engineer Gert Pedersen. Pedersen's modifications address inherent weaknesses in the original Gyrodec design, particularly the subchassis resonance and steel spring-induced coloration. The mod transforms the original floating subchassis design into an isolation or decoupled subchassis system, significantly reducing resonance and improving midrange transparency, pitch stability, and dynamic slam. Key features include mechanical reinforcement of the chassis with metal mass and sand filling for resonance damping, a redesigned suspension system with rubber bands and adjustable stainless steel spindles, and a kevlar wire to prevent unwanted chassis movement. The armboard is also upgraded with an isolation system that decouples it from the subchassis, reducing energy transfer and improving soundstage detail and tonal color. These modifications require significant DIY assembly and are partly irreversible, resulting in a turntable that is no longer a standard Gyrodec but offers superior sonic performance. The mod is considered affordable relative to its impact and is highly regarded for enhancing the Gyrodec's bass weight, instrument separation, and overall musicality.
