The Michell Engineering Gyrodec LE mkIV is a special limited-edition version of the classic Gyrodec MkIV, retaining the core suspended-chassis architecture and platter design of the standard Gyrodec while adding distinctive cosmetic and configuration details specific to the LE series. Like the regular Gyrodec, the LE mkIV uses a single acrylic plinth with a three-point spring suspension and a suspended aluminium sub-chassis, designed to isolate the platter and tonearm from external vibration and structural resonance. This sub-chassis works as a weighted, pendulum-style structure to maintain stability while allowing controlled movement for effective isolation. The platter is an impedance-matched acrylic/vinyl design with protruding solid brass weights arranged around its periphery, increasing rotational inertia and helping to improve speed stability, damping, and overall neutrality. The main bearing is Michell's inverted, oil-pumping design, engineered to reduce friction and noise while ensuring long-term reliability. Drive is via a belt-drive system with a free-standing motor unit positioned off the plinth to minimise mechanical transmission into the chassis. Earlier Gyrodec generations used an AC synchronous motor with manual speed change, while later MkIV/LE examples were supplied with an upgraded DC motor and could be paired with optional electronic power supplies such as Michell's HR/VC units. The Gyrodec platform, including the LE mkIV, accepts interchangeable armboards and is compatible with a wide range of tonearms; common pairings include models from SME (e.g., SME IV), Rega (e.g., RB300/RB-300), and Origin Live, allowing owners to tailor the turntable to different cartridges and system needs.
