About the MHDT Labs Orchid
The MHDT Labs Orchid DAC features a classic Philips TDA1541A R-2R multi-bit DAC chip paired with a 5670 vacuum tube output stage, providing a warm, analog-like sound with emotional depth and a three-dimensional soundstage. It supports up to 24-bit/192kHz digital inputs via four independent inputs: BNC, USB (asynchronous), RCA, and TOSLINK, selectable via front panel switches. The DAC is non over-sampling with no digital filter, no op-amp, and no feedback, aiming for the most realistic and natural sound reproduction. The output level is 3 Vrms with an output impedance of 32 ohms, suitable for driving a wide range of audio equipment. The unit has a solid build with an acrylic front panel that reveals the glowing tube, and a durable aluminum chassis. It is praised for its musical warmth, lifelike vocals, and immersive soundstage, making it a favorite among tube DAC enthusiasts. The Orchid DAC is available only in a black cabinet and requires manual tube replacement with compatible tubes such as 5670, 2C51, 396A, and others. The power supply voltage is selectable internally for 115V or 230V. Dimensions are approximately 276 x 150 x 60 mm, weighing about 2 kg. The product is no longer in current production but remains highly regarded for its unique sound character and craftsmanship.
