About the MHDT Paradisea
The MHDT Paradisea is a non-oversampling DAC that uses the legendary 16-bit/44.1kHz Philips TDA1545A DAC chip, known as a simplified R-2R DAC. It features a tube output buffer stage using a 5670 vacuum tube directly coupled to an LM4562 operational amplifier, which adds a nominal gain and imparts tube warmth and musicality to the sound. The DAC supports coaxial, optical, and USB inputs, with USB replacing the earlier BNC input. The unit is housed in a dark-tinted acrylic chassis with gold-colored feet to reduce vibration. The Paradisea is praised for its deep soundstage, good detail retrieval, and musical presentation that transcends pixel-perfect accuracy. Tube rolling is possible, with options like Western Electric 396A tubes providing a darker, richer sound. The DAC is mod-friendly and responsive to cable changes, allowing users to tailor the sound. It is considered an excellent entry-level tube DAC that offers a warm, natural, and engaging listening experience, though it may lean slightly aggressive in the treble compared to some other DACs.
