About the Constantine
The MHDT Labs Constantine DAC is a solid state digital-to-analog converter that uses the Philips TDA 1545A 16-bit DAC chip. It is housed in a 5mm smoked transparent acrylic case etched with the MHDT Labs logo and the DAC name. The case includes laser-cut ventilation holes on top to dissipate heat. The Constantine is known for its light, delicate musical presentation with detailed, dynamic sound and sharp imaging. It provides a slightly less pronounced bass and midbass response compared to its tubed counterpart, the Paradisea, resulting in a sound that some find more 'real' and less colored. The DAC supports input capacities up to 16 bits/48kHz USB and 24 bits/96kHz SPDIF, with output levels around 2.6V and output impedance of 32 ohms. It is a valued DAC for those who prefer a solid state design without tube coloration, offering a clean and detailed sound signature. The unit is no longer in current production but remains sought after in the used market.
