About the ULN-2
The Metric Halo ULN-2 is a highly regarded FireWire audio interface offering two analog inputs with boutique-quality, ultra-low noise mic preamps capable of up to 72 dB gain and an equivalent input noise (EIN) as low as -132 dBu at 50 Ohms. It supports 24-bit/96 kHz A/D/A conversion and includes two channels of digital I/O (AES/EBU and S/PDIF), balanced analog inserts, and individual monitor and headphone outputs with front panel level controls. The unit features Metric Halo's exclusive Character processing DSP, which adds selectable analog-style harmonic distortion effects to inputs and mix busses without burdening the host computer's CPU or adding latency. The ULN-2 can operate as a standalone mic pre/converter system with front panel preset recall or as a full FireWire interface controlled via software. It is powered via FireWire bus or any DC source from 9V to 30V, making it portable and versatile for studio or mobile use. Physical dimensions are 13.5" x 8.25" x 1.73" and it weighs 4 lbs. The preamps have a stepped gain range from +6 dB to +72 dB in 6 dB steps, with an additional continuous trim attenuator providing up to -20 dB attenuation. Phantom power is +48V, regulated, high current, individually switchable, and P48 test compliant. The ULN-2 also includes sophisticated patch and preset management, balanced send/return paths for outboard gear insertion, and word clock I/O for synchronization.
