About the Pure Tape Head

The Merrill Audio Pure Tape Head is an external reel-to-reel tape head preamplifier designed to bring direct head outputs up to line level with very high fidelity. It uses a fully balanced, dual-mono design with selectable gain and equalization for multiple tape speeds, and it emphasizes low noise, precise channel matching, and minimal signal-path alteration. Merrill Audio states it was designed by Jens Waale in conjunction with Merrill Audio and built by Merrill Audio, with the goal of providing a purist alternative for serious tape listeners.
