About the MASTER Tape Head
The Merrill Audio MASTER Tape Head is a high-end, fully balanced, dual-mono tape-head preamplifier designed to connect directly to the playback-head outputs of professional reel-to-reel tape machines, including Ampex ATR 100/102/104 and Otari MTR models. It provides selectable tape-speed equalization, extremely high adjustable gain, channel-balance and high-frequency controls, VU-meter calibration, memory for settings, and a 5-inch color capacitive touchscreen. The unit uses an external KRATOS II ultra-low-noise power supply and custom balanced XLR connections. Merrill Audio currently lists the MASTER Tape Head Preamp among its obsoleted products, so it should be regarded as no longer manufactured, despite some current web pages and dealer listings still showing the model.
