About the TSMXE

The Merlin TSMXE is a sealed, two-way monitor loudspeaker measuring 16 inches high, 8 inches wide, and 10.5 inches deep, weighing 26 pounds each. It uses a hand-made 1-inch soft-dome tweeter, a customized Morel MDT30, and a 6.25-inch Morel MW164-08 pulp cone woofer. The speaker has a nominal impedance of 8 ohms (minimum 6.5 ohms) and a sensitivity of 87 dB/W/m. It employs a second-order crossover wired in phase, optimized at 2150 Hz, with high-quality components including Hovland aluminum foil and polypropylene capacitors. The cabinet is extremely rigid and designed to minimize residual lead in components and solder joints, with many parts cryogenically treated. The TSMXE is bi-wireable via Cardas binding posts and includes an RC filter to align frequency response and reduce high-frequency hash. Frequency response is 55 Hz to 20 kHz ±2 dB, with -10 dB at 35 Hz. The design emphasizes flat frequency response, low distortion, and excellent harmonic resolution, making it suitable for both solid-state and tube amplifier systems. It is best suited for mid-sized rooms and offers a clear, natural sound with excellent imaging and inner resolution.
