About the VSM Black Magic edition
The Merlin Music Systems VSM Black Magic edition represents the latest and most significant evolution of the VSM line, featuring proprietary Cardas Clear wiring, cryogenically treated UpTone Musicap capacitors, and a new solder formulation for improved connection quality. The woofers are specially coated to optimize low-frequency performance. The speaker is a front-vented design with a port tuned to 37Hz, housed in a cabinet made of pan fiber with a thick 1.5-inch front baffle and gently curved edges to minimize diffraction. Three brass tuning rods on the front and top control resonance patterns in the baffle, enhancing both aesthetics and acoustic performance. Compared to previous iterations like the VSM MXM, the Black Magic edition offers a more live-like sound with a broader, taller, and wider soundstage, smoother midrange without nasal qualities, and more air between instruments. It uses a 2nd order crossover with state-of-the-art components connected to a Dynaudio Esotar soft dome tweeter and a Scan-Speak carbon fiber impregnated paper cone woofer. The cabinet is highly optimized with bracing, mass loading, and radius-edged design. The Black Magic edition is finished in a studio black finish and incorporates advanced crossover networks with impedance correction for a benign amplifier load. Power handling is rated at 200 watts maximum, with a minimum recommended power of 17 watts for tube and 25 watts for solid-state amplification. The design emphasizes musicality, resolution, and a natural, uncolored midrange, making it a significant leap forward in the Merlin VSM series.
