About the Master BAM Clear
The Merlin Master BAM Clear is a premium version of Merlin Music Systems’ Bass Augmentation Module, an active line-level device designed primarily for use with Merlin VSM loudspeakers. It provides approximately 5.2 dB of bass enhancement centered around 35 Hz, extends the speakers’ usable low-frequency response to roughly the low-30-Hz region, and incorporates a subsonic filter below approximately 27–28 Hz. The circuit also includes a very-high-frequency roll-off above approximately 200 kHz. Compared with the Super BAM, the Master BAM uses handmade European Deuland capacitors in place of the standard Hovland capacitors. It was offered in single-ended RCA and fully balanced XLR versions; the balanced version was marketed as the Dual Ops. The unit uses an external/battery-based power arrangement and was available with rechargeable battery operation. It is a compact outboard module intended for insertion in the audio signal path, rather than a loudspeaker or conventional subwoofer.
