The Meridian 506.20 is the middle version in the Meridian 506 series of CD players, succeeding the original 16-bit model and preceding the richer-sounding 506.24. It features a Crystal Semiconductor CS4329-KS 20-bit dual-differential Delta Sigma DAC, delivering a neutral, correct, fast, tight, and spirited sound, though some describe it as slightly boring or gray, benefiting from colorful cables. Highly praised for its build quality, excellent PCB, regulation, filtering, digital filter, and balanced voltage output DAC. The player uses a smooth Philips CDM-12.4/12.5 mechanism with a three-beam laser and Foucault focus. Outputs include 2V fixed Class A analog, coaxial, and optical digital. It includes an eight-character dot-matrix display and Meridian System Remote (MSR). Dimensions are compact at 88 x 321 x 332mm, weighing 6.4kg, with black textured enamel and glass finish. No longer manufactured, it's a vintage favorite for its musical, transparent performance and soundstage.
