About the SHA-1 Gold

The Melos SHA-1 Gold is a vacuum tube headphone amplifier and line stage that builds on the original SHA-1 design, featuring a dual triode balanced input line amplifier coupled to a source follower driver. It offers exceptional phase linearity and a very low output impedance of 0.5 ohms, making it ideal for driving headphones with high fidelity. The amplifier uses separate voltage regulators for the voltage and power amplifier sections and includes multiple line inputs and outputs, two toggle switches, and one volume control. It operates in class-A hybrid tube/FET mode, delivering a line gain of 19dB, THD of less than 0.07% at 1kHz with 1V output, and a frequency response from 15Hz to 200kHz (+0, -1dB). The SHA-1 Gold is recognized for its musical sound quality and was a Stereophile product of the year recipient. Dimensions are 19" W by 17" D by 3.5" H, and it weighs 12 lbs. It is no longer in production and is considered a reference piece in high-end headphone amplification.
