About the Shearwater Hot Rod
The Meadowlark Audio Shearwater Hot Rod is a medium-sized two-way floorstanding loudspeaker measuring 40" H x 9" W x 11" D and weighing approximately 43 lbs each. It features a 1" ScanSpeak D2905/95000 fabric-dome tweeter and a 7" ScanSpeak 18W8545 carbon-graphite long-throw woofer with transmission-line woofer loading. The crossover is a time-coherent, first-order design at 2.7 kHz with a damped resonance shunt. The cabinet is constructed from 1"-thick high-grade MDF with extensive internal bracing and uses Keldamp damping material liberally to reduce resonances, including a decoupled sloped baffle and a sealed subenclosure for the crossover. The Hot Rod version upgrades the standard Shearwater with premium components such as Cardas Solis pure copper binding posts, an Infini SETI capacitor replacing the Solen Fast Cap, a 14-gauge Parfect Lay inductor for the bass circuit, Auric capacitors, silver soldered connections, and Cardas litz internal wiring.
