About the Kestrel Hot Rod
The Kestrel Hot Rod is an upgraded version of the original Kestrel speaker, featuring a two-way transmission line design with a 6.5-inch woofer and a 1-inch fabric dome tweeter. It is designed with a slanted, elastically decoupled baffle to time-align drivers and reduce cabinet resonances. The cabinet is heavily braced to form a transmission line that produces deep, powerful, and articulate bass. The crossover uses high-quality components mounted in a separate subenclosure to minimize microphonics. The Hot Rod version includes upgraded crossover components such as Infini SETI capacitors and Parfect Lay inductors, Cardas solid-copper binding posts, silver soldered connections, and extensive use of Keldamp damping material to reduce resonances. The speakers are known for their spacious, natural sound with excellent bass articulation and a fatigue-free listening experience. They are moderately sized (approximately 36"H x 8"W x 9"D) and easy to place in a room. The Kestrel Hot Rod has received consistent critical acclaim and is considered a music lover's speaker that performs well even with modest electronics.
