About the MR7083

The McIntosh MR7083 is an AM/FM stereo tuner manufactured from 1990 to 1995. It has a digital frequency display, manual tuning, scan up/down controls, eight station presets with indicators, and a search function. McIntosh’s SPATIAL audio processor is intended to improve stereo listening and reduce noise on weaker or noisy broadcasts. The tuner also includes a phase-locked-loop FM multiplex decoder, stereo-carrier noise suppression for recording, and AM antenna inputs supporting a low-impedance loopstick, external noise-canceling shielded loop, or conventional long-wire antenna. Front-panel indicators show band, mono/stereo mode, SPATIAL, search, tuning lock, signal strength, and FM multiplex status. Connections include fixed and variable audio outputs, oscilloscope outputs, and a 15-pin remote-control receptacle. It uses McIntosh’s Panloc mounting system and consumes 10 watts from a 120V AC supply. Published specifications include 11.25 dBf FM practical sensitivity, 37 dBf stereo 50 dB quieting sensitivity, 50 dB stereo separation, 0.5% maximum distortion, and frequency response of 50 Hz–6 kHz for AM and 20 Hz–15 kHz for FM. Dimensions are approximately 406 × 138 × 330 mm (16-1/8 × 5-7/16 × 13 inches), including the Panloc shelf and rear connectors.
