About the 1521A
The MBL 1521a is a world-class CD transport designed for audiophiles seeking the highest fidelity digital playback. It features a top-loading CD mechanism housed in a massive brass block chassis with a floating 3-point suspension system that isolates the drive unit from vibrations. The drive chamber is sealed with a 10-mm thick full-metal lid to eliminate external interference. It uses a CDM12 IND module with a 3-beam laser for high tracking accuracy and supports Red Book standard CDs with 16-bit resolution and 44.1 kHz sampling rate. Digital outputs include AES/EBU (XLR), S/P-DIF (RCA and BNC) with low jitter and high bandwidth. The transport weighs approximately 40 kg (88 lbs) and measures about 450 x 160 x 400 mm. It is praised for its neutral, detailed, and musical sound, with a quick disc load and stop time. The 1521a is often paired with MBL's 1511 DAC for optimal performance. It is no longer in current production but remains highly regarded in the audiophile community.
