The Marantz SA-15S2 is a high-end Super Audio CD player designed to deliver reference-quality audio reproduction for SACD, CD, CD-R/RW discs including MP3 and WMA files. It employs the Crystal CS4398 high-precision DAC capable of 24-bit/192 kHz resolution, combined with Marantz's proprietary HDAM-SA2 discrete amplifier modules for high bandwidth and fast signal handling. The player features a resonance-resistant Xyron composite disc tray mechanism, a double-layered chassis with copper-plated ground plates, and a large double-shielded toroidal transformer to minimize vibration and magnetic interference. It includes selectable digital filters for tailoring sound response, zero-impedance matching joints for optimal signal-to-noise ratio, and a discrete high-current headphone amplifier with volume control. The SA-15S2 also offers optical and coaxial digital outputs, an optical digital input for DAC mode (up to 96 kHz), and gold-plated analog outputs. Additional features include program play, auto music scan, repeat and random play modes, and a low-noise LCD display. The unit supports digital input from external sources, allowing use as a high-quality DAC. The chassis is robust with extra metal plates for strength, and the analog output connectors are machined brass for durability and signal integrity. This model is part of Marantz's Reference Series and was99 at launch. It is now discontinued but remains respected for its sound quality and build.
