About the Chinook SE MkII

The Manley Chinook Special Edition MkII is a tube MM/MC phono preamplifier that builds on the standard Chinook with expanded gain options and upgraded tubes. It retains the original vacuum tube complement of 2 x 6922 in the gain stage and 2 x 6922 in the output stage, and can also use compatible 6DJ8, 7308, or ECC88 types. The SE MkII version adds two extra gain settings for a total of 45, 50, 60, and 65 dB, giving wider compatibility with both high-output and low-output moving coil cartridges in addition to moving magnet cartridges. It features cryo-treated Gold Lion 6922 tubes that are specially selected and tested for performance in this Special Edition variant. Input loading is highly configurable, with user-selectable input termination capacitance using 3-position capacitor values of 50 pF, 100 pF, and 200 pF to yield seven capacitance options from 50 pF to 350 pF, and MC input impedance set via a 5-position resistor network offering 50, 100, 200, 400, and 800 ohms, for 32 possible loading combinations. MM input impedance is fixed at 47 kOhms.
