About the Squeezebox 3
The Logitech Squeezebox 3, also known as the Squeezebox Classic or SB3, is a third-generation network music player originally designed by Slim Devices and later acquired by Logitech. It streams digital music from a PC or NAS device over a wired or wireless network to your hi-fi system. The unit features a high-quality Burr-Brown 24-bit DAC with two dedicated linear power regulators, delivering full 6.0Vpp line-level signals with a signal-to-noise ratio over 100dB and total harmonic distortion less than 0.002%. It supports multiple simultaneous outputs including analog RCA, coaxial and optical S/PDIF digital outputs, and a headphone jack that also functions as an IR blaster. The device supports a wide range of audio formats including MP3, FLAC, WMA, Ogg Vorbis, and more, with lossless and lossy codec support. It includes a 250 MHz 8-way multithreaded RISC processor, 64MB RAM, and 16MB flash memory, running a "pure software" SlimDSP architecture with field-upgradeable CPLD. Networking includes true 802.11g Wi-Fi with dual antennas and 100Mbps Ethernet. The Squeezebox 3 comes with an infrared remote control and offers features such as Internet radio streaming, playlist management, and customizable screen savers. It is praised for its sound quality, ease of use for network-savvy users, and flexibility in multi-room setups where multiple units can operate independently.
