The Krell KAV-250cd is a premium compact disc player that establishes a significant standard of value in high-end audio components. It features Class A direct-coupled, complementary output circuitry and a high-precision disc transport mechanism with a mechanically isolated drive featuring a linear drive laser assembly. The player delivers exceptional clarity, definition, and musicality characteristic of Krell's audio engineering. It supports HDCD decoding via a Pacific Microsonics PMD 100 decoder and includes both balanced XLR and single-ended RCA analog outputs, plus a digital S/PDIF output. The KAV-250cd comes with wireless infrared remote control and is designed for front-loading with a center-mounted mechanism allowing it to be stacked with other components. However, the original model has been noted to have reliability issues with disc reading and transport mechanisms, which were addressed in the later KAV-250cd/2 revision. The unit is no longer manufactured and is available only on the secondary market.
