About the K300
The Koechel K300 is a three-way horn-loaded loudspeaker designed for high efficiency and dynamic sound. It features a 12" back-loaded horn bass driver with a treated lightweight membrane and a large 77mm coil capable of handling up to 200 watts. The midrange is a 2" aluminum alloy compression driver coupled to a constant directivity horn, and the super tweeter is a 1.75" aluminum alloy compression driver with a wide 140° dispersion slot horn. The drivers are arranged in a phased array for coherent sound projection. The speaker has a sensitivity of 99dB average (97dB minimum) at 1 watt/1 meter, an impedance of 8 ohms, and a frequency response of 52Hz to 22kHz at -5dB average in-room. The cabinet dimensions are 57.2" high, 16.5" wide, and 21.5" deep, weighing approximately 150 pounds per speaker. The crossover network is a complex 13-element passive filter using high-quality components such as copper ribbon air-core inductors and 6N Teflon internal wiring. The design avoids typical horn coloration and directivity issues, providing a smooth and natural sound even off-axis. The K300 is praised for its musicality, presence, and realistic soundstage, often compared favorably to other high-end horn speakers. It requires a minimum of 3 watts and can handle up to 200 watts RMS power. The speakers are considered somewhat large and heavy but deliver exceptional performance for horn speaker enthusiasts.
