About the Bifocal XL
The Kimber Kable Bifocal XL Speaker Cable is engineered as a high-performance biwire or biamp cable featuring a unique hybrid design with equal parts TC (traditional copper) and VS (VariStrand copper) conductors. It builds on the Bifocal X platform by increasing copper mass on each layer, using a twelve-wire braid around an X38R acoustic and electrostatic sinking core, separated by braided ESD yarn to isolate high-frequency conductors from the low-frequency conductors made of a 24-wire braid. This results in two distinctly unique cables in a single body, offering a better soundstage, more precise imaging, and improved dynamic range. The cable is constructed with low loss fluorocarbon and polyethylene dielectrics, 36-wire counter opposed helix geometry, and hyper-pure copper conductors. It is designed for biwire speakers with independent binding posts for high and low frequencies and is suitable for longer cable runs or more challenging loads. Terminations typically use high-quality WBT spades or banana plugs. The cable diameter is approximately 31mm, with a 5.5 AWG conductor size (15mm²). Electrical specifications include 1500 pF/m capacitance, 0.369 µH/m inductance, and 0.024 Ω/m DC resistance. The Bifocal XL is part of Kimber's Summit Series and remains current as of 2024.
