About the KP-9010
The Kenwood KP-9010 is a direct drive turntable manufactured in Japan between 1988 and 1993. It features a quartz PLL coreless and slotless DC servo motor with a starting torque of 2.0 kg/cm and a die-cast aluminum alloy platter weighing 1.9 kg with a diameter of 330 mm. The turntable supports 33 1/3 and 45 rpm speeds with electronic speed change and has wow and flutter less than 0.005% (FG direct reading method) and a signal-to-noise ratio of 90 dB (DIN-B). The tonearm is a J-shaped static balance type with an effective length of 245 mm, 15 mm overhang, tracking error angle from +1.8° to -1°, and adjustable tracking force from 0 to 3 g. It supports cartridges weighing 2 to 12 g including the headshell. The chassis is a solid aluminum frame with integrated vibration damping and anti-skating mechanism. The unit weighs 14.5 kg and measures 490 x 182 x 410 mm (WxHxD). Power consumption is 15 W. Originally priced around 99,800 Yen in Japan (circa 1988), it is regarded as a high-fidelity audiophile turntable with precise and solid build quality. It includes an auto-lift mechanism at the end of the platter and a contactless optical detection auto-up mechanism. The KP-9010 is praised for its excellent sound quality and mechanical precision, often compared favorably to contemporaries like the Technics SL-1200 series.
